چکیده

Surface electromyography is the technique for measuring levels of muscle activity. When a muscle contracts, electrical activity generated as action potentials propagate along the muscle fibers. There are two types of Surface EMG (SEMG)-Static scanning SEMG and Dynamic SEMG. In Dynamic SEMG, electrodes are attached to the skin and muscle activity is measured and graphed as the patient moves through various ranges of motion. The authors in this paper discuss the use of EMG for analyzing different phases of walk by acquiring the surface EMG from Gastrocnemius and Soleus muscles of the leg .with the subjects walking at two self selected pacefast and slow. These surface EMG signals picked up during the muscle activity are interfaced with a PC system via Biometrics EMG acquisition system. The acquired signals were processed and analyzed using filtering techniques. The results showed a marked variation in the RMS amplitude levels and median frequency of EMG as the subject’s walking pace changed.

sEMG Characteristics of the Lower Extremity Muscles During Walking in Mentally Retarded Adolescents

Purpose: Less attention has been paid to the electromyographic activity of the lower extremity muscles, which is considered as an essential part of the kinetic studies on the gait of mentally retarded individuals. Hence, the study aims at determining the surface electromyography characteristics of the lower extremity muscles of mentally retarded adolescents during walking. Methods: It is a cau...

Comparative Analysis of Wavelet-based Feature Extraction for Intramuscular EMG Signal Decomposition

Background: Electromyographic (EMG) signal decomposition is the process by which an EMG signal is decomposed into its constituent motor unit potential trains (MUPTs). A major step in EMG decomposition is feature extraction in which each detected motor unit potential (MUP) is represented by a feature vector. As with any other pattern recognition system, feature extraction has a significant impac...

مقایسه فعالیت الکتریکی عضلات ساق پا در افراد با پای صاف و پای طبیعی حین راه رفتن روی نوارگردان با سرعت‌های مختلف

Background: The muscles activity of individuals with flat foot play an important role in identifying the causes of these people’s vulnerability. The rate and pattern of muscles activity depends on the speed of walking and so far, difference in muscles activity of individuals with flat foot and normal during walking with different speeds remains unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this inve...

Cross-correlation as a method for comparing dynamic electromyography signals during gait.

Current clinical interpretation of dynamic electromyography (EMG) data is usually based on qualitative assessments of muscle timing. Cross-correlation may provide a method for objectively comparing the timing and shape of EMG signals. This study used cross-correlation to compare EMG signals from different walking trials, different test sessions, and different individuals in able-bodied adults. ...

EMG patterns during assisted walking in the exoskeleton

Neuroprosthetic technology and robotic exoskeletons are being developed to facilitate stepping, reduce muscle efforts, and promote motor recovery. Nevertheless, the guidance forces of an exoskeleton may influence the sensory inputs, sensorimotor interactions and resulting muscle activity patterns during stepping. The aim of this study was to report the muscle activation patterns in a sample of ...
